865 million women in the world have the potential to contribute more fully to their economies. However, health barriers bar them from entering, remaining and rising in the workforce. In view of this, the Healthy Women, Healthy Economies Policy Toolkit is being launched within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Women and the Economy 2015 Fora (APEC WE) as part of an initiative to unleash the economic power of women through better health. This year’s APEC host, the Philippines, steps forward and serves as a trailblazer by being APEC’s first-ever economy to pilot the Toolkit.

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the government's policymaking and oversight agency for gender equality and women's empowerment under the Office of the President, slams the sexist portrayal of Ms Bikini in the May 23, 2015 front page of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, one of the leading broadsheets in the country.

The front page contained a photo of the winner of the Ms Bikini pageant in a provocative pose.  PCW is alarmed and aghast with the sexist and sexual portrayal of the young woman in the reputable broadsheet.
