Young Women Leaders Initiative 2013

Theme:

"Leading change on a straight path to engendered governance”

Wednesday, March 20, 2013 to Friday, March 22, 2013

BE A PART OF IT!

The main purpose of the Young Women Leaders’ Initiative is to get women engaged in governance, to take ownership of their lives and future and to propel the process of development themselves. This proactive method stands that young women should be empowered to take control of their lives while (1) gaining the education, the skills and the network to support the future that they want, and (2) gaining awareness and accountability to contribute to governance.

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide an educational and creative forum for young women on issues of human rights, political participation and gender that will train and prepare women for future managerial and leadership positions.
  • To create opportunities for young women to develop and exercise their creative, leadership, decision making, personal and communication skills.
  • To promote gender-responsive and just societies through exchange and leadership sessions

The Initiative aims to develop a kind of conviction, this ability to take the ever-generic desire to move and shake the world and make a difference. More importantly, to shift the question from “What do you want to be?" and instead formulate an answer to "Why do you want to be?" and “How do you become the change that you want to see in the world?”

If you are a young woman with a commitment to address GAD (gender and development)issues in your community, this event is for you.

The initiative will bring together young women from the 6 provinces of the PCW-AECID Project (Albay, Aklan, Iloilo, Oriental Mindoro, Saranggani and Surigao del Norte) on the Implementation of the Magna Carta of Women. Please consider the objectives set out in depth and draw upon them when you complete the application form. The sections on reasons for applying and home community benefit are particularly important and your form will be assessed on the quality and detail of your answers to these questions.

AM I ELIGIBLE?

  • I am under 30 years old (but at least eighteen)
  • I have demonstrated leadership skills and I am a member of an organized group (school, church, NGO, etc)
